The skin is the largest organ of the body and is responsible for protecting us from the environment, and is also a highly effective eliminator of toxins. It is important that we take good care of our skin, not only for cosmetic reasons, but as a guard for ourselves against our harsh environment.
VISIA Skin Analysis
VISIA® skin and complexion analysis uses multi-spectral imaging to reveal damage and signs of ageing on and beneath the surface of the skin that is not visible to the human eye. VISIA®’s computer imaging enables Mackay Skin Clinic’s practitioners to evaluate the health and appearance of your skin based on six criteria that affect your complexion: wrinkles, spots, pores, evenness (skin tone colour variation), porphyrins (evidence of bacteria in your pores), and UV spots caused by overexposure to the sun.
VISIA® also compares your skin to that of others of the same age and ethnicity to provide additional information about your skin and complexion results. VISIA® starts with a digital photograph of your face which your practitioner can use to document the condition of your skin and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment options available to you. The system generates comprehensive reports to add to your record and with which to track your progress to a healthier, more youthful looking complexion.
During your personalised consultation, your face is placed in a special photographic booth to eliminate ambient light and the VISIA® skin analyser takes a number of detailed images of your face from both sides and full frontal under varying light conditions. The computer is able to analyse to a depth of two millimetres under your skin and reveal conditions completely invisible to the naked eye. Because all ambient light is eliminated and the same light parameters are used, the programme and results can be stored on our database and repeated exactly, weeks or months later to check the efficacy of the treatment programme undertaken. The process is completely pain-free and non-invasive. Once your digital skin analysis is completed, your results are displayed on the computer monitor and our practitioner will discuss the findings with you, and together you can determine an effective rejuvenation regime for your specific needs. This can include a number of treatments such as skin peels, facial treatments, IPL treatment or anti-ageing injections, such as muscle relaxants and dermal fillers.

FAQs: Skin Analysis
-
Skin analysis acts as an important step towards creating a personalised skincare strategy. It can provide insight into the specific needs of your skin, helping in the recognition of any conditions that might need targeted care. It utilises sophisticated diagnostic technologies to offer a thorough examination of aspects like hydration levels, skin texture, pore size and the presence of fine lines or sun damage. With this in-depth assessment, our team can help suggest suitable treatments and products, aiming to tailor your skincare routine for better skin health and condition.
-
The frequency of a skin analysis might vary based on factors like age, skin condition and skin care regimen goals. It's suggested that a skin analysis be conducted every 6 to 12 months. This timeframe can support observing your skin's development and facilitate adjustments in your treatment plan to reflect any changes in your skin's condition or skincare objectives. More regular analyses could be helpful for individuals undergoing specific treatments or focusing on particular concerns, subject to their skin specialist's guidance. You can expect a non-invasive and comfortable experience during a skin analysis appointment. The appointment usually begins with a consultation, where one of our training therapists will discuss your skincare concerns and objectives. Following this, your skin will be examined using diagnostic equipment to assess surface and subsurface skin conditions. The analysis typically focuses on identifying your skin type, hydration levels, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and other concerns. After the assessment, the therapist can provide an overview of your skin's current state and suggest a tailored approach for your skincare regimen. This process aims to be informative, offering insights that could help guide your skincare decisions.
-
No, skin analysis is a completely painless procedure. It involves non-invasive techniques and advanced diagnostic equipment to examine the skin’s surface and underlying conditions. There is generally no discomfort associated with the procedure. The approach focuses on gently and comprehensively understanding your skin's specific needs and conditions.

Skin analysis can be beneficial for individuals of all ages and skin types, whether they are experiencing specific skin concerns or not. It might be recommended for those who wish to take a proactive approach to their skincare, individuals who have noticed changes in their skin’s condition or anyone looking to optimise their skincare regimen. A skin analysis can provide valuable insights into the unique characteristics of your skin, facilitating the selection of treatments and products that are most suitable for achieving healthy, radiant skin. Regardless of whether your goal is to address ageing, hydration, sensitivity, acne or other specific concerns, a skin analysis is a foundational step towards attaining your skincare objectives.
